August 07

Greek proverb.....A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they will never sit.....I believe in that.

From April to August....is that magic or what?

#816 Eggbed

An example of art following life....apparently the chicken snake has just dropped by. This piece of metal art I created to recognize the value of our chicken, guineas, peacocks and ducks, an occasional turkey and many birds of the wilder sort but always excluding geese who are a little more opinionated than we allow.

August 6, 2007..... More chicken snakes

.....I caught the 5th chicken snake in the chicken house in the last two weeks. I caught two at once one evening this week.. Years ago my wife had invited coworkers for dinner, that night I was closing the door to the yard chickens and found a chicken snake eating eggs, I grabbed it while holding the flashlight in the other hand. Then I saw another so I put the flashlight in my mouth and grabbed the second one. The guests were quite shocked when I walked in the kitchen with the flashlight beaming and two reptiles draping down on each side of me.

Usually I drive the snakes down the road to a corn field nearby with no residents in the area and release them. I hold my hand out the window with the snake hanging like a kite tail to it's new domicile. Snakes do an important job helping keep other mice, rats and small rabbits controlled not to mention just hatched baby chicks.
